Arlene Kanter writes, “Turning Their Back on People with Disabilities in the Name of Religious Freedom.”

Arlene Kanter, professor in the College of Law and founder and director of the Disability Law and Policy Program, authored the Jurist op-ed titled, “” In the op-ed Kanter discusses the “recent Supreme Court decision in St. James School v. Biel on the 30th Anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.” Kanter says the ruling “abandons people with disabilities under the guise of protecting religious freedom,” and essentially allows for any person with a disability who works for a religious organization to “be fired just because they have a disability.” She argues “that is precisely the type of discrimination the ADA was intended to eradicate.”
