Ariella Azoulay, a professor of visual culture and contemporary philosophy at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, will present a lecture on Friday, Nov. 5, at 4 p.m. in Shemin Auditorium, located in the Dorothea I. Shaffer Art Building. The lecture is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Booth Garage.
Azoulay is the author of the forthcoming “Civil Imagination: Political Ontology of Photography” (Verso, 2011), as well as “The Civil Contract of Photography” (Zone Books, 2008), “Atto di Stato Palestina-Israele, 1967-2007” (Bruno Mondadori, in Italian, 2008), “Once Upon A Time: Photography Following Walter Benjamin” (Bar-Ilan University Press, in Hebrew, 2006) and “Death’s Showcase: The Power of Image in Contemporary Democracy” (MIT Press, 2001), which was awarded the 2002 Infinity Award for Writing by the International Center for Photography for excellence in the field of photography.
The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies in ϲ’s as part of the department’s centennial celebration and the Andrew W. Mellon Central New York Humanities Corridor.
