Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of radio, television and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was interviewed for the Marketplace story “.” Thompson, an expert on popular culture and the television industry, says that television show revivals, like the new “Sex and the City” reboot, are a smart move for networks because viewers already have heard of the show for years and understand it, whether they were fans or not. “That is a rich and rare commodity. You’ve already got an entire history of promotion, advertising and brand identity that is already bought and paid for,” says Thompson.
