Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of television, radio and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was quoted in the Washington Examiner article “.” Thompson, an expert on pop culture, says that pets are often used as tools to soften the perception of politicians in the public’s eyes. “Never underestimate the power of a dog in the White House or the power of a dog in politics in general,” Thompson says.
