The ���ϲ����� Martin Luther King Jr. 2011 Celebration Committee is seeking nominations for the Unsung Heroes Awards, which will be presented during the evening celebration in the Carrier Dome on Jan. 23, 2011. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Heirs of a King: Remembering and Continuing the Work of Global Legacy.”

The awards are presented annually to people who, in the spirit of Dr. King’s “beloved community,” have made a positive difference in the lives of others but who are not widely recognized for their efforts. Past recipients have been recognized for their work to advance human rights, nonviolence, diversity and discrimination; promote youth; advocate for peace and justice; build bridges between diverse communities; and provide opportunities for people living on the margins of society.

Nominations may be made in any of the following categories:

• Youth/teen from the Greater ���ϲ����� community
• Adult from the Greater ���ϲ����� community
• Student at SU or the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF)
• Faculty or staff member from SU or SUNY-ESF

The deadline for submitting nominations is Monday, Nov. 29.
