The Maxwell School’s Moynihan Institute Program on Latin America and the Caribbean Speaker Series will present Jorge Rodríguez Beruff, dean of the College of General Studies, Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico, on Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium. He will speak on “From the Depression to the Second World War: The Memoirs of Two American Governors of Puerto Rico.”
Rodríguez Beruff has edited the memoirs of two American governors of Puerto Rico, William D. Leahy (who served from 1939-1940), and Rexford G. Tugwell (who served from 1941-1946), and published a study on the political transition during the late ’30s in Puerto Rico, “Strategy as Politics.” This lecture will be based on this trilogy of books and focused on the transformations that occurred during this period, both in the dynamics of internal politics and in Puerto Rico’s relations with the United States.
A reception will follow.
