The Vera House White Ribbon Campaign kicked off March 25 with the goal of distributing 40,000 white ribbons to people in Onondaga County to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence. The 17th annual campaign will run until April 3.
ϲ’s Division of Student Affairs supports the campaign and will sell white ribbons and white wristbands that say ”No Excuse For Abuse” for $1, and metal lapel pins in the shape of a white ribbon for $5. They will be available in the atrium of the Schine Student Center from March 28–April 1, from 11 a.m. –2 p.m. They can also be ordered for a department through the Student Affairs Dean’s Office at 443-4263.
Wearing a white ribbon or wristband is an important statement and provokes discussion, debate and soul-searching. According to the campaign, wearing a white ribbon means “you will not condone, support or commit domestic or sexual violence. Change will occur only if we each accept personal responsibility to make sure it happens.”
Vera House, Inc., aims to end all domestic and sexual violence, to assist families in crisis, to support those affected by domestic and sexual violence to live safe, self-sufficient lives, to empower women and children, and to promote a culture of equality and respect in all relationships.
