The (OMA) within the Division of Student Affairs has appointed Huey Hsiao as its new associate director. Hsiao will begin the position on Jan. 1, 2012. Currently, he is serving as assistant director of student services for MBA and M.S. programs at ���ϲ�����’s Whitman School of Management.

“Huey provides a smooth and seamless transition to the position because of his familiarity with our programs, his understanding of the needs of our students and his previous and consistent engagement with the office and our students over the past three years,” says James K Duah-Agyeman, director for the Office of Multicultural Affairs. “He has also been quite intentional in his collaboration with the previous associate directors in providing mentoring and leadership for our students, including our male students of color in the Multicultural Empowerment Network (MEN). Additionally, he has served as a member of the APA Heritage Month committee working closely with students, faculty and staff on ‘Paving the Way: Asian Pacific Americans in Business.’ His 10 years of higher education experience and commitment to diversity and inclusion make him a valuable member of the OMA team.”

Hsiao will work closely with the director in providing leadership and direction for the WellsLink Leadership Program. He will assist in developing and implementing strategies to increase the retention and graduation rates for students of color through university-wide collaborations. Additionally, he will work with students, faculty, professional staff and community resources to develop and administer programs and services that promote diversity, inclusion and equity with an emphasis on students of color and diversity initiatives.

Hsiao is a founding member of the ���ϲ����� affinity group Orange Asian Pacific Americans (APA), which strives to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for APA faculty, staff and students. He possesses a deep understanding, appreciation and commitment to the student affairs profession and his program management, cross-cultural communication and teamwork capabilities will be an asset to OMA.

Prior to joining SU in 2006, Hsiao held multiple positions with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE), including program adviser, program officer and enrollment officer. In addition, he served as the assistant resident director for a semester aboard program at National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan. Hsiao also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at Nankai University in Tianjin, China, through the Colorado China Council (1997-1998).

A native of North Haven, Conn., Hsiao received a bachelor’s degree in biology and an Asian studies certificate from the University of Rochester. He also earned an MBA from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.
