鈥淲e are proud to expand our reach into Central and Upstate New York,鈥 says Spencer, who serves as an SU Meredith Professor; associate dean for science, mathematics and research in A&S; and executive director of SU鈥檚 Forensic and National Security Sciences Institute. 鈥淭hese spring concerts are always well attended and are fun for the whole family.鈥
The spring repertoire draws on a variety of operatic and symphonic selections, including excerpts from Puccini鈥檚 鈥淟a Boheme,鈥 Mozart鈥檚 鈥淒on Giovanni鈥 and 鈥淭he Marriage of Figaro鈥 and Bernstein鈥檚 鈥淲est Side Story.鈥 Other operatic pieces are by Handel, Rossini, Donizetti, Nicolai, Gounod, Saint-Sa毛ns, Gilbert and Sullivan, and Wagner.
Symphonic selections include John Williams鈥 鈥淪ummon the Heroes鈥; as well as music from 鈥淭he Muppet Show鈥 and 鈥淐rimson Tide.鈥
SUBE features professional and dedicated amateur musicians from throughout Central New York. In addition to performing at official SU functions, SUBE presents 15-18 public concerts a year, including the award-winning 鈥淗olidays at Hendricks,鈥 which is broadcast on WCNY-TV and radio throughout New York state and southern Canada. Distinguished composers from whom SUBE has commissioned music include Robert Ward, Arthur Frackenpohl and Joseph Downing. DVDs of the ensemble are available at the SU Bookstore.
