Canadian organist Rachel Laurin will be the first guest in Hendricks Chapel’s Malmgren Concert Series at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The recital will begin at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel and is free and open to the public. Parking will be available in the Irving Garage.
Laurin will perform works by Brahms and Daveluy, several of her own works, and an improvisation on submitted themes.
A native of Canada, Laurin studied at the Montreal Conservatory and has performed organ recitals in major cities in Canada, the United States and Europe. She is an associate composer of the Canadian Music Centre, and has composed more than 60 works for various instruments, instrumental ensembles and orchestra. Laurin is an award-winning composer of more than 60 works. Her two most recent compositions are “Concerto for Organ, String Orchestra and Timpani” and “Sonata for Organ and Horn.” She has made 11 recordings.
The concert is part of the Malmgren Concert Series at Hendricks Chapel. The series was made possible by a generous gift to Hendricks Chapel from alumna Esther Malmgren ’42 in 1991. The free concerts, held throughout the year, feature a wide variety of music.
Upcoming concerts in Hendricks Chapel include Justin Murphy-Mancini in a Rising Star Recital (Nov. 6); SU Faculty Perform Chamber Music with Organ (Jan. 29, 2012) and chamber choir musica intima (Feb. 26, 2012).
