Whitman has highest student participation level in competition

The will host the first round of the on Thursday, Nov. 10, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. The competition is being held on the campuses of 20 select universities.

On Thursday, Whitman student teams will compete to represent SU at KPMG’s regional semifinal event in Philadelphia. Semifinal events will also be held in Chicago, San Francisco and Miami. Whitman has a total of 18 teams of four students participating (72 students total), the highest student participation level for all schools competing. Teams must be intended or declared business majors, with at least one intended or declared accounting major. Both undergraduate and graduate students were eligible to participate.

Teams will spend up to 48 hours reviewing the business case, and will then present their recommendations in 20 minutes to a panel of judges. Cases will mirror business challenges the KPMG audit, tax and advisory teams handle every day. The cases will test business students’ ability to evaluate real problems and develop workable solutions. The competition provides a great way for business students to practice thinking outside of the box and offers preparation for a global career.

Winners of the semifinals will compete for the national title in New York City in February 2012. The U.S. champions will then head to Hong Kong to take on more than 20 countries at the international competition in April 2012.
