The has received a $5,000 grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be awarded to a student seeking a Los Angeles internship in the motion picture industry.

The funding, administered through the program, will help defray the costs associated with the SULA Semester, a career-oriented program that allows students from the and the to spend a semester in Los Angeles taking classes, networking and interning in the entertainment industry.

Academy grants are intended to provide a gateway to the entertainment industry for dedicated and talented students.

In addition to the Academy grant, Lorraine Branham, dean of the Newhouse School, has provided a matching grant of $5,000 for Newhouse students who are considering applying to the SULA Semester.

“These grants are a great way to expand this unique opportunity to students who might find the additional expense of participating in the SULA Semester to be a hardship,” says Robin Forman Howard, who directs the program.

Students enrolled in the Fall 2014 SULA Semester who are seeking an internship at a motion picture company will be eligible to apply for the Academy grant. The Newhouse grant will be awarded to a Newhouse student accepted for the Spring 2015 semester.
