Research conducted by Jennifer Karas Montez, professor of sociology in the Maxwell School, was featured in the Salon story “” Montez, who specializes in social demography, led research that found that “states that implemented more conservative policies,” such as those related to issues like labor and the environment, “were more likely to experience a reduction in life expectancy.”
