Jennifer Grygiel, assistant professor of communications in the Newhouse School, was interviewed by CNN for the story “.” Grygiel, an expert on social media and misinformation, says it is concerning that people are relying on Nextdoor for vaccine information, as the platform is not fact-checked for information reported by local news outlets. “The risk is that Nextdoor is starting to serve as a place where people share information without the journalists who go and fact check it, and make sure that that isn’t misinformation. It becomes more like best-intentioned gossip,” Grygiel says.
