Cho, best known for her work as Kira Yukimura on “Teen Wolf,” has also appeared on “Castle” and “Pretty Little Liars.” She also released her self-produced EP, “My True Happy,” in 2013 and regularly showcases her music on her YouTube channel, ardenBCho.

“Arden is a wonderful, well-rounded speaker to welcome for AAPI Heritage Month,” says Huey Hsiao, associate director in OMA and chair of the AAPI Heritage Month planning committee. “While building a successful career in the entertainment industry, she has also been an important voice for Asian American and Pacific Islander communities by sharing the challenges faced and misperceptions of these identities in entertainment and broader society.  I think Arden will really add to the whole experience of AAPI Heritage Month.”

The AAPI Heritage Month Commemorative Lecture is Saturday, April 8, at 3 p.m. in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall’s Gifford Auditorium. A meet and greet with Cho will follow the lecture.

AAPI Heritage Month is a national celebration each May during which Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are honored for their history and enrichment in American history. The University observes and celebrates AAPI Heritage Month in April so that all students, faculty and staff can participate before the conclusion of the semester.

Throughout the month, the University will hold a variety of events intended to educate the University community about challenges facing Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, as well as celebrate their rich cultures and long history.

The following day, Tuesday, Feb. 28, the Sankofa Student Talk will take place at 6 p.m. in the same location, with students discussing research they have conducted.

The Sankofa Lecture Series began last year as part of the University’s Black History Month celebration. It features a ���ϲ����� graduate of African descent discussing his or her accomplishments and career path after graduation.

An alumnus of the , Anael-Bey is a leader in the field of Moorish-American history and represents the ���ϲ����� area in the Moorish Science Temple of America. In addition, he represents Moorish Americans on the InterFaith Works Round Table of Faith Leaders, while also chairing its Faith Partners Committee.

Anael-Bey presents publicly on diverse topics ranging from development, testing and deployment of bioweapons to the Transatlantic Slave Trade. He is the spokesperson for Operation Proclamation, which focuses on education initiatives in urban areas, and he is the founder of a spiritual training program called Unified Field Fitness. Anael-Bey also represents upstate New York for Yee’s Hung Ga International Kung Fu Association and opened a branch in ���ϲ�����.

“We were excited about the success of last year’s Sankofa events, so we’re pleased to bring it back this year,” says Cedric T. Bolton, OMA coordinator of student engagement. “Bringing such accomplished alumni of color back to campus is a great experience for our students, especially in honor of Black History Month.”

A panel of study abroad alumni will provide firsthand accounts of their study abroad experiences. Panelists will share stories and take questions from those in attendance with special focus on how diversity affected their study abroad experience. Alumni panelists include Christine Chung (SU London), Jason Deal (SU Hong Kong), Daisia Glover (SU Santiago), Brandon Mixson (SU Madrid) and Saphyir Moody (SU Hong Kong). Diversity Abroad’s Trixie Cordova will also be in attendance to speak with students. Diversity Abroad is an international organization that connects diverse students with academic, professional and volunteer opportunities abroad.

“We’re really excited to partner with SU Abroad again,” says Huey Hsiao, associate director in OMA. “Our study abroad alumni always return with such great experiences to share with their peers on campus. We hope that sharing students’ experiences will motivate more students to share in these experiences.”

“In addition to this great group of abroad alumni, we’re thrilled to welcome Trixie to campus,” says Jenn Horvath, manager of marketing and communications at SU Abroad. “We really think students have a lot to gain from all that Diversity Abroad has to offer.”

The event is open to all students and will take place Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 6 p.m. in Schine 304ABC. Light refreshments will be served.
